This semi open-plan kitchen project was part of a complete renovation to a suburban Parisian home. Our clients wanted to bring the living spaces closer together, so opted to install this semi open-plan kitchen living room with glass partitions. This style of kitchen meant they could have the best of both worlds: a kitchen that could either open into the lounge or be used as an independent space.
A semi open-plan kitchen separated by glass partitions
Glass partitions separate the kitchen from the living room, meaning it can either be closed off as an independent space, or used as part of an open-plan layout. The benefit of using glass partitions is that natural light can still enter the kitchen space even when closed, keeping it bright and airy. The partitions, whilst very practical, are also a visually-striking feature.
The semi open-plan kitchen living room proved to be the perfect solution for our clients, who wanted to maximise family time without the inconveniences that can arise from full open-plan kitchen.
Optimised storage space
During the planning phase of the project, our clients expressed their desire to have maximum kitchen storage. They were immediately enamoured with two storage systems from Santos - the retractable units and the plinth drawers - so the team worked hard to incorporate them into the design.
We installed floor-to-ceiling retractable units along one side of the semi open kitchen, which gave it an elegant, sophisticated feel. These units are very functional as they give our clients plenty of storage for both food and kitchen appliances. When open, the cupboards reveal a warm wooden interior as well as open shelving and an LED light system. Closed, the retractable units are sleek and minimalist, hiding any mess from view.
The plinth drawer unit system was installed opposite the cupboards and meant that we used all available space under the countertop. This system gives our clients practical, easily-accessible storage.
A balanced colour palette
Our clients struggled to settle on a colour palette for their semi open-plan kitchen, believing that they'd need to use classic white to create a bright, light space. In the end, they fell for our Cashmere colour, which is subtly different to a classic white and adds personality to the kitchen.
Our clients decided to add some warmth to the space with the addition of natural wooden tones, choosing our Earth Walnut finish. Wood brings a timeless elegance to the space, whilst a modern feel is created by the dark grey tones in the worktop and stainless-steel finishes. The glass partition also adds a modern edge.
Overall, this project brought together functionality and aesthetics to create a semi open-plan kitchen living room that fulfilled the needs of our clients in their Parisian family home. With its well-thought-out design and considered storage solutions, this partitioned kitchen represents the art of modern living, where the kitchen is the heart of the home.
