This bespoke wooden kitchen with Cashmere and wooden Smoked Larch units was fit in an old industrial building in Gattis Wharf, close to Kings Cross and Regent’s Canal. The building dates back to 1857 and is located in an exceptional setting witness to London’s industrial past. Previously used as a stock and distribution centre for ice, the building has been transformed into apartments full of character, with exposed wooden beams, generous volumes and original materials.

The kitchen was designed by the eba Marylebone team in collaboration with Bodes Studio, and pays homage to the area’s history whilst meeting modern comfort, usability and aesthetic desires.

A functional wooden kitchen with character

The owners wanted a functional kitchen that included all necessary kitchen equipment without compromising on the room’s visual harmony. At 18m2, the challenge was to structure the space so that it felt fluid and inviting as well as cohesive with the rest of the apartment.

The result is a comfortable L-shaped kitchen with dining area, designed to be suitable for everyday needs as well as for hosting friends and family. Every decision was guided by the desire to balance practicality, elegance and a respect for the existing architecture.

Cashmere, Smoked Larch and ceramic worktops

The kitchen features units from SantosFINE range, with wooden kitchen cabinets in Vertical Smoked Larch and overhead cupboards in Cashmere - a combination that brings depth, softness and warmth to the space. The warm wooden base units visually structure the room, whilst the brighter off-white wall units lighten the composition and reinforce the feeling of space.

Cabinets open using a mixture of integrated pull and push systems, leaving the unit fronts smooth and handle-free. This discreet design decision leaves the materials and lines to speak for themselves and ensures the space doesn’t feel overwhelmed or cluttered.

The black matte Dekton Sirius ceramic worktop, 1.2cm-thick, was chosen for its aesthetics as well as its technical specifications. Resistant, easy to maintain and suitable for intensive use, it’s a great choice for high-end kitchens. It’s complemented by the Dekton Trevi wall panel, which adds an elegant grey stone finish to the room. This pairing highlights the kitchen’s horizontal lines and reinforces the room’s visual unity.

An optimised layout with expert lighting

The L-shape of this Cashmere and wooden kitchen allows easy movement around the space and an effective separation of the prep, cooking and washing zones. Plenty of storage ensures worktops can remain clutter-free, with all equipment and appliances hidden away in cupboards or drawers. A discreet lighting profile under the overhead cabinets provides space for plugs and accessory holders, such as a paper towel holder, spice rack and utensil pot. This helps keep the worktop clear but hanging accessories are still easy to access.

A round wooden table and chairs have been placed in the extension of this L-shaped kitchen with dining area to create a social dining space, reinforcing the central role of the kitchen in the apartment. This layout creates a natural continuity between the kitchen's different functions without breaking it up visually.

Lighting plays a central role in the perception of the space. LED lighting strips built under the wall units showcase the different materials and help illuminate the worktop.

An alcove built under the stairs in the wall of Smoked Larch units is used as a coffee station, providing accessible storage for everyday items like tea and coffee. Built-in LED lights emphasise the texture of the wooden kitchen units and play with depth whilst creating a relaxed ambiance ideal for moments of pause.

High-quality equipment designed with discretion

The kitchen is equipped with electronic appliances selected for both their performance and their seamless integration into the space. This includes an induction hob with flexible cooking zones from Siemens, a Miele combination oven, a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and a Siemens noFrost refrigerator. Together they guarantee optimal user comfort, suitable for demanding everyday use.

The matte black Quooker Flex tap brings a distinctive design accent to the overall scheme, while offering practical features such as filtered and boiling water delivery. The Etagon sink by Blanco complements the tap’s matte black finish, creating a discreet and harmonious washing area.
