Black Kitchen
in the Heart of Paris

Black kitchen with natural stone worktop and central island

In this Haussmann apartment in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, a comprehensive kitchen renovation was undertaken to adapt it to the tastes and needs of the new owners, a couple with four children.

The kitchen refurbishment project let the couple turn this room into an exceptional space to receive guests and explore their shared passion: cooking. After studying their needs and wishes, the eba Haussmann showroom team put forward an innovative concept that could meet this family’s demands, as they sought to bring ergonomics and practicality together while keeping all the charm of the Haussmann style intact.

An alliance between elegance and ergonomics

The goal was to make the most of the surface area of the room using a bespoke composition, offering plenty of storage space without overwhelming the 19 m² space.

The design, which made use of Santos cabinets with clean lines and plain fronts, seamlessly blends into the architecture. In the middle of the kitchen, there’s an island with a natural stone worktop, to which a Natural Oak worktop mounted bar also by Santos – is attached, matching the parquet flooring. These carefully selected materials reflect the natural light streaming in through the large window in the kitchen. The Chic chairs by Profim round off and soften the ambience with their light colours and gentle curves. Two original hanging lamps illuminate the central composition.

A contemporary kitchen designed to make the most of the space

Aside from holding the preparation and cooking zones, the island offers plenty of storage options. Smoke extraction is done using an ingenious and discreet cooker hood system placed between the two hobs, thus doing away with the need to install a ceiling cooker hood, letting natural light stream into the whole room. The rest of the furniture is laid out in an L around the centre island to make the most of all the space, ensuring optimal flow. The sink area is found in front of the cooking and preparation zones to optimise the work triangle

Smart storage solutions

The area with base units holds the washing-up zone, which comes with a dishwasher, two drawer units and two sink units to make waste recycling a snap. All the base units in the kitchen are fitted with plinth drawer units – an exclusive solution by Santos – to make the most of all the available space by expanding the capacity of each unit all the way down to the floor. For safety reasons, the drawers tilt inwards, so it’s possible to work near the worktop without the risk of tripping.

The area with wall units is comprised of four units all the way to the ceiling with folding doors, which come with an LED lighting profile to illuminate the worktop. The ceiling mouldings have been retained in keeping with the architecture of the apartment and, to enhance them, the height of the units have been adjusted. The upper composition also contains three elegant glass door units with a black aluminium frame and smoked glass fronts – allowing a glimpse of their contents – which adds a touch of design and elegance. They have an interior lighting system, located behind each of the shelves, creating a source of indirect lighting.

The run is completed by three tall units that further increase storage space and are perfect for storing provisions for this large family.

Cleverly concealed appliances

To the right of the worktop, and perpendicular to the island, a set of units as tall as the entire height of the wall holds the fridge, freezer and ovens, in a compact and organised space. The equipment was chosen for its technical and aesthetic features to let the couple give free rein to their culinary imagination in such an inspiring setting.

The room is rounded off with five top box units with flap doors, which are for storing utensils and small appliances that are used less frequently.

This layout has enabled the family to get a contemporary, comfortable and practical kitchen that’s perfect for their lifestyle, their needs and the home’s classic style.
