This dark blue kitchen was part of a complete renovation project in a Parisian Haussmann apartment, just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Arc de Triomphe. Cleverly designed to fit into the large open-plan living space, this kitchen makes the everyday feel elegant with its clean lines, high-quality materials, and sophisticated dark blue cabinets.
A new location for an inviting open-plan kitchen
One of the biggest challenges in this project was moving the kitchen from its previous, separated location into one where it would flow seamlessly into the main living space. The kitchen now opens onto the hallway, living room and dining area. The decision was made to create a kitchen that was striking but discrete, in dialogue with the rest of the interior.
This strategic relocation makes it easier to move around the space, and makes the apartment feel even more open and inviting. Built in an L-shape, with a central island, the kitchen structures the space whilst providing distinct zones for cooking, hosting and sharing.
A midnight blue kitchen that exudes elegance
Our clients wanted their kitchen to look timeless and elegant, so we opted for a dark, refined colour palette. Furniture from our LISSE range, characterised by its minimalist lines and handless unit fronts, adds to the purity of the design. An LED strip built under the open shelf brightens the upper part of the kitchen and provides a secondary ambient lighting option.
The chosen colour is a bespoke RAL Silk Matte Grey Blue, a dark shade that catches the light and adds character to the space. The integrated pull handles on the blue kitchen cabinets also adhere to the chic, minimalist aesthetic and discretely emphasise the base units’ volume.
The Zimbabwe Black granite worktop, with a flamed finish, adds depth and texture to the room. This natural material, renowned for its quality and durability, adds a simple, sophisticated touch.
A central island where guests can gather
Situated in the middle of the room, the island is a central part of the living area. Built to seat up to four people, it provides the ideal space for breakfast, on-the-go lunches or casual dinners. It also houses open storage units, built to display everyday objects, cookbooks and glassware.
The island also plays an important role in the space’s layout, creating a soft transition from the kitchen to the living room.
A kitchen built for avid cooks
This dark blue kitchen was designed to look good, but also to be extremely practical, with high-quality electrical appliances. The owners of this kitchen love cooking, to an almost professional standard, so we carefully chose equipment from our partners Miele and Gaggenau that would suit their needs. The oven, hob, extraction fan, dishwasher and wine fridge were all selected for their quality and durability.
Plenty of well-distributed storage — with dark blue cabinets along each wall as well as on the central island - ensures that the space is used optimally and our clients have easy access to everything they need. Each element of this midnight blue kitchen was carefully considered to ensure that the space was as practical as possible whilst also looking elegant and refined.
A bespoke dark blue kitchen project
Designed in close collaboration with the owners, this project reflects our personalised approach, where each choice - from materials to layout - contributes to the overarching vision of contemporary elegance.
By playing with volume, using high-quality materials and working with a refined colour palette, we created a kitchen that is both discrete and expressive, in dialogue with the building's architecture but brought up to date for modern use. A simple, sophisticated interpretation of the Parisian art of living.
