Grey kitchen cabinets might seem like an out-there choice for some, but we think choosing grey for your kitchen units can result in a sophisticated, timeless design. This small, open-plan kitchen was a recent project that required us to get creative to really make the most of the space. The project was for our clients, a couple living in Paris’ 14th arrondissement, who had found inspiration for their kitchen in our eba Haussmann showroom.
Grey kitchen cabinets for a timeless design
Passionate about design and interior decor, our clients wanted to create a kitchen that was aesthetically pleasing, with lots of open units for maximum storage.
They chose to have grey kitchen cabinets, using the colour Silk Mink Grey, which gave the kitchen a pared-down, timeless look. They decided to pair the grey units with countertops in Neolith Calacatta Gold, a white marble.
To add warmth and brighten up the grey cupboards, we installed three panel systems with Smoked Oak shelves. The first two are open, whilst the third has doors made of smoked glass.
A kitchen made for hosting
Installed as a U-shape, this small, grey kitchen has been fitted with a peninsula to create an open space that still has separation between the kitchen and dining area. This layout allows the host to interact with guests whilst continuing to cook on hobs that have been built into the peninsula.
To keep the space as open as possible, we suggested installing an extraction fan that’s fully integrated into the hob, preventing the need for an overhead extraction fan that takes up visual space.
Optimised storage space with grey kitchen cupboards
A small space doesn't have to mean less storage. We added plinth drawers as well as top box units to really get the most out of the space, with storage systems from floor to ceiling. The peninsula is another way to gain work space and yet more storage possibilities.
The half-open unit with shelving is an innovative solution to create space in a small kitchen, used here to house a coffee or breakfast area as well as additional storage. This area gave us the opportunity to add accessories like roll holders and spice racks under the shelves alongside plug sockets and LED lights.
Light, light, and yet more light
Our clients wanted to use grey units in their kitchen whilst still keeping it modern and inviting. We therefore recommended an LED-lighting system built into the shelving panels. Sitting very elegantly behind wooden shelves, our LED lights suit every space, and can be used to create an intimate atmosphere, to highlight decorative objects and crockery, or simply to add light to the work space.
The combination of grey kitchen cabinets, Smoked Oak shelving and well-placed LED-lighting resulted in a timeless, sophisticated space for our clients to enjoy.
