This minimalist galley kitchen in a Parisian apartment is the result of a large renovation project, turning a dark space into a modern, minimalist living area. Our brief was to create a bright space with as much natural light as possible, as well as a practical kitchen that was well-suited to our clients’ everyday needs.
In this article we’ll walk you through what we did to create a modern minimalist white kitchen that was ideal for our clients - including how we chose a colour palette, our functional design decisions and an ingenious breakfast bar addition.
Brightening the space with a light colour palette
The original kitchen opened onto an interior courtyard and therefore didn’t receive much natural light. Our main priority was to counteract this by choosing to use a light colour palette that would brighten up the space.
We carefully selected a mix of different colours and materials to create a pared-back, but still inviting, atmosphere. Pearl White was used for the base unit fronts, taller cupboards were made using Natural Oak, and smoked glass door units reveal LED-lit shelves. The lighter tones make the space look bigger, turning this modern white kitchen into a welcoming living area.
Balancing aesthetics with functionality
Bright colours help the room look bigger, but we also needed to make sure the space was functional. We reviewed all of our clients’ electronic appliances and made sure that each of them could have a space in the new design. From the toaster to the mixer, every appliance was accounted for when deciding on cupboards and shelving units. This approach meant we could completely eliminate visual clutter but still ensure that everything was accessible for daily use in this minimalist galley kitchen.
Optimising the space with ingenious solutions
The final challenge was to create a breakfast or work-from-home area, for which we decided to create an open alcove area on the adjacent wall to the kitchen. This brought in natural light from the neighbouring living room, contributing to the expansive feel we were trying to create in the kitchen. The resulting multifunctional bar is ideal for quick morning meals or to use as an additional workspace.
The eba team worked hard to create an aesthetically-pleasing, functional kitchen that suited the needs of our clients. We chose bright, illuminating colours to open up the space, maximalised functionality with different storage and seating solutions, and brought in as much natural light as possible. The resulting space - a minimalist galley kitchen - was refreshingly sophisticated and modern whilst still feeling homey and inviting.
At eba, we push the limits of design to create spaces which tell unique stories. If you'd like to trust us with your kitchen renovation project, book an appointment . We'd love to hear from you.
