In this project we reimagined the space to create an open plan kitchen living room with clean lines, high-quality materials and a layout suited to modern living. Designed to feel like one harmonious space, this kitchen-living room is bright, functional and welcoming, with an easy flow of movement and a coherent design identity.
A bright, striking kitchen
The kitchen’s design was built around the LISSE model from Santos and the finish HG White lacquered. The unit fronts are simple but striking, their brightness accentuated by the natural light from the central skylight. The space is structured by the generously-sized island, with its sharp, clean lines and 2cm-thick ceramic worktop. The natural texture of the Uniceramica Statuario ceramic softens the space, and is echoed in the wall panel above the sink.
Lines are clean, and proportions well-balanced. There is an unbroken visual flow to the room, thanks to handleless unit fronts and built-in electronic appliances. The result is an open-plan kitchen living room that feels calming and elegant.
A hidden coffee corner
Tucked away behind the pocket doors is a private coffee corner, built in warm Earth Walnut. The space feels enticing and cosy thanks to the wooden shelves and built-in LED lighting, which contrasts with the rest of the kitchen’s smooth, white finish. The lighting profile, with built-in sockets, was built using the same wood finish, ensuring it blends seamlessly into the wall. The coffee corner has a coffee machine, kettle, jars and books – a space created for rituals, revealed only when needed.
This contrast of materials, with the Earth Walnut interiors and the shiny white lacquered exterior, adds an interesting visual dimension to the space, making it come to life.
Functional, aesthetic storage solutions
We designed the kitchen to have lots of storage without visually overloading the space. Tall units hug the back wall, whilst glass wall units provide a space to display items with soft LED lighting.
In a quest to simplify everyday living and create a clean, unified aesthetic across the kitchen-living room, we ensured all technical elements were hidden and electronic appliances were built into the units.
Creating a unified aesthetic in the open-plan kitchen living room
The living room was designed to retain a visual fluidity with the kitchen in this open-plan living space. The custom-made wall TV unit is finished in the same HG White as the kitchen units, and the open shelves mimic the clean lines of the island. The wall unit has base storage units and shelves with built-in LED lights that showcase decorative items and give the space a warm, inviting glow.
Books, ornaments and pieces of art find their natural home in this bespoke space.
Other furniture choices, like the organically-shaped armchair, the low coffee tables with contrasting surfaces and a textured rug help create an ambiance which is both elegant and inviting.
Simplicity, comfort and finer details
This project highlights the care taken with every design decision we make – from the durability of materials, to the flow of the space and the choice of secondary lighting options, everything was carefully chosen to create a space that balanced aesthetics and functionality.
Each decision was guided by our desire for coherence, simplicity and long-lasting quality, to create an open-plan kitchen living room that facilitates everyday life.
