A private concert at the eba Haussmann
showroom for Paris Design Week

Un concert privé intimiste avec la violoncelliste Julie Sévilla-Fraysse

Paris Design Week - the event of the year for any interior or design lovers – came to a close several days ago, after ten days of festivities across the capital. As self-confessed interior design lovers, we of course joined in, hosting a private concert at the eba showroom on Boulevard Haussmann. We had the honour of welcoming Julie Sévilla-Fraysse, a solo cellist.

We spent the evening enthralled by the talented Julie Sévilla-Fraysse, a cellist with an eclectic repertoire. She caught up with us about her journey:

"I started playing the cello at the age of eight at the Nice Conservatoire. I was lucky to have inspiring, passionate teachers. Thanks to them and years of hard work (you have no idea of how long things might take when you start as a child), I decided to make it my job. I joined the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 17, spent a term at Juilliard in New York, and then finished my studies at Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. In 2017 I joined the French Republican Guard Orchestra and then in 2019 the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris."

Today, she concentrates on her soloist and chamber music career, and is artistic director of the charity CoCreate Humanity. For this private concert, Julie shared the best of classical heritage, including Celtic sounds and reinterpretations of contemporary pieces.

"The repertoire for a solo cello is very varied. Of course, Bach’s sequences, which are truly timeless masterpieces, are not to be overlooked. I also like traditional and folk music, like Spanish and Irish music. My concerts reflect me; I like to mix several styles of music," she explained.

An intimate, private concert

Paris Design Week was the perfect occasion to invite guests to our showroom for an intimate, friendly event where we could showcase our living space designs and brand partners.

"I love being close to the audience. When I play, I'm very receptive to the audience's energy. I think that's the magic of concerts - that invisible, wordless interaction between people. In the same moment in the same place, there’s a communion. You feel that even more in a small group."

Art in all its forms

By welcoming Julie Sévilla-Fraysse to the space to share her music, we hoped to highlight how different art forms can work together. Here at eba, we find inspiration for our designs in all sorts of places; in nature, in the everyday, and in different types of art. Julie is of a similar opinion:

"I think we can talk about aesthetics, which are essential. I look for fluidity, for beauty, for curves and contrasts in music. I think there's an interesting parallel with design. We sometimes need to be surprised, or to feel in tune with our environment. Beauty fascinates, attracts and scares us. In both cases, it's the art of creating.

Like eba's designs, I take my inspiration from my everyday, from both the big and the small emotions that occur in everyday life. Moments of sadness and doubt as well as those of elation. After years of working on instrumental technique, the most interesting thing to be able to do is detach from that and use it to express yourself."

For those who couldn't make it to the evening, here's a short round-up in images (and music) of this fantastic event:
